     Elise and I also attended Rod's funeral, and clearly remember how 
amazed Rod's family was that he had this other "family" of puppeteers.   I 
remember Penny Jones speaking at his funeral.
     In the early 80's we met a husband and wife at Carol Fijan's puppet 
class out in Great Neck.   We became friends with this couple, and it turned 
out they lived in Bayside, Queens, about two minutes from us.   They had a 
lovely house and decided to put in a marionette theatre in the basement, since 
they were fascinated by marionettes.   They asked us if we knew someone who 
could teach them about their history and about manipulation.   We knew Rod 
could use the money and a meeting was set up.   Rod drove out to Bayside in 
his beat-up old car, put together like many of his puppets out of odds and 
ends.
     At first our friends were put off at the sight of this old car, 
seemingly falling apart.   We told them to give Rod a chance, which they did.   I 
believe he gave them something like ten lessons.
     I'll post another story about Rod tomorrow.   We think of him often.
