This was after Katrina, when nature was still trying to adjust to the shock. I had gone out to the site, and selected a place under a tree, so that we would have shade all day; otherwise, we would have expired from the heat. Of course we were in costume. What I did not anticipate was that untold thousands of caterpillars hatched in the area, and there was a non-stop drizzle of caterpillars on our theater, our pavilion, our puppets, and me. While we did shows that required me to play hurdy-gurdy outside the theater, I was continually having caterpillars falling on me and walking on me. The audiences, which sit fairly close, often felt obliged to step up and brush me off, because it bothered them so much. I just had to ignore it. They weren't stinging me or anything. Guess I must be grateful they did not climb on my face much.
