Subject: Re: [Puptcrit] led stage lights

I am no lighting expert by any stretch of the imagination, but a few
quick thoughts.

I'm not sure a DJ supply is where you want to look for stage lights.
Most DJ lights are for color and effect, not focused lighting.

A stage light is partially in the brightness of the light and partially
in the type of lens (if any) in the fixture. In combination it
determines what kind of light falls on the stage (and puppets, in this
case.) Theoretically some of the newer LEDs might be able to be used,
especially where the throw isn't as long as would be in an auditorium
or theater. I imagine with lower heat levels you could also have a
plastic lens that focused the light in the desired way.

While LED lights can not be dimmed in the standard way, some new LED
lights come in sort of an array, which gives out a varying degree of
brightness. So it may be possible they have figured out (or are working
on) a method to dim them by how many lights are on in the fixture at
any given time. But I'm only guessing here.

You may want to look at Stage and Theater suppliers for small,
relatively inexpensive lights that would better suit the puppet stage.

Depending on the kind of puppets and staging you are doing, and what
venues you are likely to play, you may not need to carry much or any of
your own lights. If that's the case, your time and money could be
better invested elsewhere in your show.

But that's just my somewhat educated opinion.
