Here's my trick: plunge a drinking straw into a canister of cornstarch or
flour.  The powder fills the straw and remains there until you blow on the
opposite end of the straw to expel the powder in a "poof."  If you need a
bigger "poof," you can get a larger straw at one of the specialty coffee
houses that are used for frozen drinks, etc.
