Subject: Re: [Puptcrit] insurance

I know it can be difficult to keep facts straight, since some are
references to events a few years ago, and are no longer current. The
proposed changes in health care are also changing over time. Here
are a few comments that propose some action that may not require
government involvment.

Since we are free citizens, can't we form health care systems that
can work for puppeteers, without the government taking control of the money?

One church group created a system where a price was set for any
particular injury. (I don't know how it would work out for something
involving an extended hospital stay.) Then, when a person sustained
an injury, several others in the group would be notified, and given
an amount of money to send to the injured individual. Since, there
were no employees, and there was no policing of the payment, it
skirted around being considered legally an insurance company.

Can a group of Dr.'s, and non-doctors, who don't like the current
system agree to work differently, and form their own health care
pool? Is there something preventing people, like puppeteers and
other self employed people from forming such a group that would meet
their needs and do the things the group feels would cut cost?
