The puppeteer in the photo is Mack Emmert, who attended the National Puppetry Festival at Georgia Tech in July 2009.

The puppet is a trck marionette designed to blow a balloon. (Note the air tube to the control---the standard means of exeuting the trick before cans of compressed air made a less obvious technique possible).

This puppet was one of five in the 2009 Festival exhibit made and used by Mack. The puppet is now dressed in a white naval uniform (Mack served in the U.S. Navy during WW II).

Post Festival, this marionette is now in the collection of the Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta.

Many of the e-bay photos of puppeteers are harder to identify.

I'm always amazed by the number of puppeteers who used to work in evening gowns and tuxedos.  Here's a photo of one on ebay.  Can anyone identify him?
