My brother once left the dog in the car while he made a quick run into the store (before going to the bank), and the dog ate my sister-in-law's paycheck.  Helen had to call the company's home office, and the woman she talked to hung up on her, thinking Helen was joking.  Helen called back and said, "No, really, my dog ate my paycheck!"  They did finally issue her a new one.

Those pesky but endorphin-inducing checks! I always stick the check in the pocket of my clipboard/organizer, where I keep directions, contract, and packing checklist. Always the same place. But after one gig, when we got home, I could NOT find that check. (And of course, I had no actual memory of whether I had put it in its designated spot.) So I sheepishly asked the client for a replacement, and they issued a new one.

A year later, I was clearing out some old documents from that clipboard, and what should fall out? The missing check! What happened?! Well, I'm usually busy packing up puppets when the client hands me the check, so I just shove it into the closed organizer, aiming for the appropriate pocket. This time I had shoved it not in the pocket, but behind the cardboard backing on the opposite side of the organizer. And never thought to look there.

Needless to say, I tore up the original check. And now I am more careful with my aim!
