Subject: Re: [Puptcrit] Hansel & Gretel 1954 DVD

As Craig and I have been taken to task by a mutual friendly expert for not
mentioning Kermit Love and Sky Highchief as animators for Myerberg's
"Hansel and Gretel," I have done a bit more research in the interest of accuracy.

I have referenced my copy of "Closeup" magazine, copyright 1976, with
interviews of both Don Sahlin and Kermit Love. Mentioned as animators on
"Hansel" besides Don and Kermit are Teddy Shepard, Danny Diamond, Inez and Joe
Horstman, Sky Highchief and Hobart Rosen. Also worth noting is that Anna
Russell supplied the voice of the witch.

None of the animators are credited in the IMDB listing for the film,
however I will attempt to get that remedied.

Also included is an interview with Lou Bunin, discussing the making of his
version of "Alice in Wonderland."

Thanks, Craig, the magazines I acquired from Teddy include an interview,
with photographs, of a youthful Don Sahlin, prior to his career creating
Muppets for Henson.

One of the animators on the Meyerberg version of "Hansel and Gretel"
was

Teddy Shepherd, a long-time member of the Puppetry Guild of Greater New
York.
She passed away within the last year or two. and I own several
stop-action
animation publications, acquired from her, on the making of "Hansel and

Gretel," "King Kong," and one of my favorites "Flesh Gordon." The work
they
did was outstanding.

Last night I watched a DVD of Hansel and Gretel, and was VERY
impressed.

It is stop motion, but of a surprisingly advanced level, for the time
it

was
made (1954).
There is an absurdly short "making of", but it may just be a mistake in
editing the DVD, as it stops quite abruptly after just a few minutes.
The
minutes they show are quite interesting though.

Directed by Michael Meyerberg
72 minutes, in color.
Deluxe Edition.

The DVD I was lent is distributed by "Collector's Catalog", New
