Subject: [Puptcrit] Pady Blackwood

Nick Coppola and David Eaton organized a memorial tribute to the life
of puppeteer Pady Blackwood at the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theater
on 12 / 11 / 09. Many people, friends and acquaintances from
throughout his colorful life came dressed in red and shared freely,
laugh out loud stories, films and quotes from his career, with each
other. If my count is correct he was involved in the opening of seven
puppetry theaters.?!?!?!? If you can judge someone by their friends
then Pady must have been a memorable influence to get so many
wonderful personalities, and even The Queen of Potpourri into the
middle of Central Park on a freezing windy winter night.
This was a moving tribute to a remarkable man. What a great turnout.
It was worth it! Judy made a Punch, and a splendid time was had by
ALL ! I did not know Pady and feel privileged to have been invited.
I tried to document the evening in video, Elise Handleman was taking
photos, and John Baronian was a roving reporter.
We hope to edit these down to an historic legacy. Great job Nick and
David.
A wise man realizes how little he knows. We would all love to know
more of the stories behind the people and the people behind the work.
But as we learn a little about Steve a bit about Pady, we are reminded
of others, Wayne Hampton and my own performing partner of 20 yrs. and
my beautiful wife of 25 yrs. Jul Poore 12/14/08. and many more
Long Live Puppetry !
Never Forget

Artie
