Subject: [Puptcrit] Great with Kids

Hi all,

For me, being great with kids is a special gift which not all wish to have or should be expected to have. Valuing people is something we all should strive for. Kids are people, so hopefully working on one will help with the other.

Each person, no matter what age,has a unique spark of light that is only their own. As we grow, life and the people we interact with may attempt to direct, focus and control that light. To "be good with children" is to recognize the value of this spark itself and their rightful ownership of this light. To be good with children is to seek, find, honor and share your own light with them. To teach a child to be good with others honor their strength, value their uniqueness and that of those around them and value above all the abilities- the creativity- they share with you.
The above sounds very fluffy. To be more direct: Welcome them. Be with them. Value them. Teach them as they are able to learn. Celebrate them. They are our future.
The best tools I have found to do all this is the patience of a saint, the humor of a clown, the dedication of a lifetime, the resilience of a trampoline and the creativity of a puppeteer. Someday I hope to have all these, but for now, I will settle for the willingness to try.
Best wishes,

Terri Klingelhoefer
