Subject: [Puptcrit] Motion Capture.....to capture motion.

For your consideration,

To give a bit of disclaimer: I love puppetry and admire the "raw" talent of
the performer and his character on a stage. The purist form of the art for
me. But, I think as puppet enthusiasts "we" adopt in the new forms of the
art form into the fold. It can only help grow and bring forward the art
form to the general masses. As I see it, a real opportunity to expand the
reach of puppetry, instead of people seeing it as CG animation. Animation
has been the king on film for a LONG time. I would love to see more
puppeteers and puppets in film. And I believe there are, but we just need
to recognize them as such.

Who to give the award to? Hmmmm....well does Kermit get the award or Jim
Henson? I mean I am watching Kermit, and not Jim. But Jim is the actor,
the breather of life into the material shaped into the form of Kermit. Now
does the guy who does the arm of Kermit get the award as well? If, so it
would be a group award, right? Motion Captured puppet would be a group
award as well.

Motion Capture.....to capture motion. Hmmmmm, so if motion capture is NOT
puppetry, than anything that captures motion is NOT puppetry.
Animatronics, String control, rod - rod control, etc...

That means JH Sid the science kid IS NOT puppetry under this definition.

Best,

William
