The same can be said of puppets and automobile construction. When Japan first wanted to set up auto factories, they had scant experience doing machines. Builders of karakuri ningyo (wooden robot- ish puppet) were among the few who knew anything about gears and stuff, and were called in for their expertise. Talk about your hybrids...
