It used to perplex me. Now I am just greatful that people take the responsibility to keep them going. These board members and volunteers sacrifice a lot in doing so. There will always be an odd ball or two who want to become the supreme leader of puppetry and create their own dynasty. This is so puzzling to me as to why this type of person would choose puppetry as their dynasty, why not just run for mayor or city council. I admire what Vince Anthony has done for UNIMA-USA and what the organization offers. Housed at the Center in Atlanta it has a great staff and resources to make things happen. We are fortunate to have this resource. As for P of A its focus on festivals around the country and its dispersed nature is a strength as well. The Puppetry Journal does play to a broader range from beginner to professional. One might also ask why we have PuppetFest Midwest when P of A offers festivals. The diversity of these organizations is a strength to our field. It gives people choices. These organizations will always need to evolve. Reason has thus far prevailed. As I find myself too busy to run for a board position, I can vote but after that I have to accept what happens either way. I do keep my memberships up to date. If anyone doubts the effort it takes to run these organizations or festivals try volunteering sometime and you will wonder how it all keeps going. My hats off to those who serve these organizations. And to anyone who would like to become supreme leader of puppetry, the pay isn't that great and you will lose friends. _______________________________________________ List address: puptcrit-AT-puptcrit.org Admin interface: http://lists.puptcrit.org/mailman/listinfo/puptcrit Archives: http://www.driftline.org
