I saw a GREAT short adaptation of Frankenstein in France...the puppeteer
came on dressed as a Butcher, and proceeded to tell the story of
Frankenstein by carving pieces of meat into puppets and performing them (he
also had a few pre-made puppets, but they stuck with the theme of being
bloody, roughly fashioned and gross).
