It=92s good to hear that the book has reached Canada =96the shipping costs will
be huge. Here is what I wrote in a newsletter after the launch last year.

L'Encyclopédie Mondiale des Arts de la Marionnette

After a 30 year gestation period this dream publication has finally arrived
=96long over due, with a weight of 3.8Kg (8=BD pounds).

The size and weight reminds us of those old family bibles where blank
preliminary pages were used to record births and deaths. But of course, this
giant tome is indeed a family bible =96of puppeteers.

Our notable forefathers long departed are listed with biographies as well as
puppeteers living and performing today. It is in French language and is
certainly now the primary reference for all things puppety. There are 864
pages (A4 in two columns) and 506 photos =96the majority in colour with
several full-page.

I hear that an online English translation has been envisaged with an editor
on each continent to amend out-of-date items, but that maybe several years
away. Meanwhile, the cost of the French edition is 80 euro plus postage. It
is published by Entretemps and more information can be found here
<http://www.lekti-ecriture.com/editeurs/Encyclopedie-mondiale-des-arts-de.ht
ml>

It may be worth noting that as the book is so heavy the relatively thin
boards will wear very quickly as it is slid off a library shelf and it is
best stored flat.

Today, Thanks to Jacques Trudeau of Unima, who brought the heavy book with

him at a meeting, I had a very quick glance, in person, of the new book, 30

years in the making.

It was made by Unima members over many years, with obviously a massive

amount of work.

The brief nanoseconds (busy meeting ahead, no time) I was able to glimpse

when Jacques flipped through the pages looks so terrific I want to buy it.

The 80$ (Can) is not something I was expecting to spend on a book this

season (already ordered the same amount for a training DVD) but hey, it's

huge, it's hardcover, and considering the amount of work, plus shipping

overseas, it's a gift price!

For now, it's only available in French, but it's in the works to be

translated.

I hear there are some deliberations about digital book format in the future.

It was officially Launched in France last Summer at the Charlesville-Meziere

festival.

The Quebec Launch is going to happen at our Montreal puppet festival, called

Les Trois Jours de Castelliers, which celebrates its fifth year already.

Official page on the Unima Website, which contains Jacques' email, to

enquire about ordering books.
