Subject: [Puptcrit] what's in a name

I was looking at the website of the Lambert Puppet Theatre and one thing led to another and I came across the work of Viktor Antonov of Russia. He performs a marionette variety show entitled, "Circus on Strings." Now, I don't know how someone -whose primary language is Russian - came up with such a title in English (or what he calls it in Russian), but I've been performing a similar show for at least 15 years entitled, "Circus on a String," and I find the similarity to be a suspicious coincidence. But who knows? It's a big world. Maybe I'm paranoid.

On the other hand, "Circus on Strings" strikes me as being merely descriptive, while "Circus on a String" is meant to project an attitude.

Ah, the life of a temperamental artist! I think I'll go learn Russian!
