I have been getting block and sheet foam rubber for over 10 years from this
source. Grey Seal also buys from them. You may have a local source but if
you don't, this company will ship foam. They are in the heart of the US
furniture industry area and get their foam a few blocks away where it is
manufactured ( You can also go straight to these manufactures if you are
buying a semi-truck load, if you are carving a 30 foot whale or the like!)
They put it in bag and suck the air out and compress it into a small
package. You then let it expand a day or so to get it back to regular mass.
Foam rubber is graded by its density and pores per squ inch.

I use #1115 which is fairly soft but works great for foamies which require a
lot of flexibility. Most others choose a denser foam (in the #2000's and
up, etc). You can talk to them about what you need they carry scott foam as
well which they call outdoor foam. They don't always have foam supplies on
hand so it is good to think in advance. I go there every year or two and
stock up. They like and understand puppetry's use of foam. I have given
them a couple of foamies over the years. The office is fairly retro and
doesn't take credit cards but will take a check.
