Originally, Flaubergastonet from the the escargot and Beaujolais region of Cooqin France, one might also find related family patronomics in Flaubert-Gaston-et- (a Canadian variant found in the early nineteenth century in Newfoundland where they became lost whilst traveling from Iceland to Panama City by way of the northern route). Flabbergasted, I believe, refers to a story regarding the family name source of the progenitor whose distinct lack of battle prowess was thought to be caused either by a condition of overweight or lack of stamina (hence "short-windedness").
