Subject: Re: [Puptcrit] what are you still trying to improve on

I found that early on I was able to build nice puppets and
manipulation also came easy. Organizing the back stage and technical
aspects of puppet theater and the business of getting to the venue and
dealing with gear all came in time. I have found that the most
elusive and challenging aspect of puppet theater for myself is
creating a full length play. I have compensated for this by using
short stories, folktales usually in a group of three, which is
manageable. I am very satisfied with those results, especially as I
tend to have very young audiences thrown into the mix on a regular
basis and the shorter stories in series work well with thier attention
spans. The shortcoming of this being that you don't get that
potential arc of drama which can be so powerful in theater. I have
attempted full length stories, but have not been satisfied with the
result compared to the shorter pieces. It is stilll something I give
a lot of thought to and try to learn more about.
