Subject: [Puptcrit] Sound problems, help!

I'm having an odd problem with my sound system.
On Wednesday and Thursday, when I started my sound from CD, it stopped and started intermittently before it finally got going. It dropped a few other times early in the performance too.

The thing is, it never did anything like that before. I rehearsed the whole piece in the same space twice on Tuesday and left it set up. I tested the sound in the morning before the show and it played fine. I tested it after the show many times, and then again Thursday morning- no problems. But it happened again when the audience was there. That's the only difference I can think of.

Setup details.
I'm using a Harbinger PA system, powered mixer with two speakers and a portable CD player modified to take a foot pedal as my only sound input. I triple checked every wire before the first show and again later.

The thing is, I couldn't even replicate the effect when the audience was gone, I tried stomping on the floor to make it skip, even shaking the CD player a bit didn't cause any change. I tried loosening the cables, I couldn't make it do that.

I've Just used the system a week and a half before, with no problems. The only difference I can think of is that Wed-Thurs there was a very full house. There's nothing wireless though. is there any way that a large number of bodies creates some kind of... weird interference?

I'm totally stumped on this.
