Am not a sound person....outside of the experience from using it.
Could be the CD player - one hint there is to keep it above freezing.
Cables could be bad - they go bad without rhyme or reason.
You could have a dirty pot on your mixer. Or the input could be bad 
althogether.
Your cd player could be dirty. The laser could be out of alignment.
There are a ton of things that could be wrong. A good place to start is to 
replace the cables (I have found).
