An American film, made in England, it is based on a Margery Sharp novel, "Britannia Mews" , a title that might confuse American filmgoers, hence the change to the (hopefully) suspenseful, scary "Forbidden Street". That change is still better than an alternate title, "The Affairs of Adelaide"! It is a story of an upper-class young woman (O'Hara) who runs off with a ne'er-do-well artist and alcoholic(Andrews) and descends into poverty, widowhood. and blackmail. Things change when she meets a young man (also Andrews) and they decide to open a puppet theater in the Mews. This film may not be available on DVD, it's a handsome production and it's a chance to view Wright's beautiful marionettes. _______________________________________________ List address: puptcrit-AT-puptcrit.org Admin interface: http://lists.puptcrit.org/mailman/listinfo/puptcrit Archives: http://www.driftline.org _______________________________________________ List address: puptcrit-AT-puptcrit.org Admin interface: http://lists.puptcrit.org/mailman/listinfo/puptcrit Archives: http://www.driftline.org
