Subject: [Puptcrit] Comprehensive Puppet Books

There is no such thing as a COMPLETE book of puppetry, although published titles may claim otherwise.

That is why it is possible to amass a big library of puppet books and still have major gaps. As the owner of a large library I am acutely aware of the current limitations.

And someone has to write the books before they can be published.

Both UNIMA-USA & PUPPETEERS OF AMERICA have many positions available for volunteers---a great training ground for higher office in either group. But I am not aware of a waiting list of volunteers. Some positions are covered by the same person, which limits growth for the future, but without enough volunteers that won't change.

As far as awards go, there is no perfect system. The Academy Awards just ended---as usual there was politicking for votes. Extraneous factors enter the picture, but at least it benefits SOME of the movies, just as Citations for puppet shows beneft SOME of the puppet shows---that too is an improvement over no awards.

It is parallel to Academic Painting in France which looked down on the Impressionists who finally held ther own exhibition.

When I was in high school, everytime one of my mom's friends hated a partcular movie, I'd go because I was guaranteed to like it. We had different tastes, but her negative review actually helped me in choosing what I would see.
