So what IS correct? Curious minds want to know.

To set the record somewhat straight, I've pasted a bit of the
information on Citations from the UNIMA-USA web site below. (to see the
full information go to twww.unima-usa.org) It does not give a time
period in which a show must be cited, so it is unclear whether a show
could be cited once each decade and take 30 years to get a Citation, or
if there is any window at all. It does, however, give a general idea of
what is being looked for when review and citing a show, and that a show
must be cited by three reviewers to get a Citation. Note, while the
below information says that a reviewer can nominate as many shows as
they want, in another section it does say they can not nominate or cite
their own shows.

I never realized before that you could self nominate for review. I'll
have to remember that when I have a citation worthy show. (I know not
all of my shows are citation worthy, but IMHO a few are.) The "Request
for Review" form is designed for requesting a review of your own work,
but I imagine that if you have enough information you could also
request a review for a work you have seen but are not involved in. I
could be wrong about that though.

Since 1975 UNIMA-USA has awarded Citations of Excellence (the "UNI")
that recognize and reward the best of the puppetry arts in this
country. In addition to encouraging worthy puppeteers, the goal of the
Citations program is to provide credible recognition that will aid
puppeteers as they seek audiences in this country and abroad. The
Citations are awarded to shows that touch their audiences deeply; that
totally engage, enchant and enthrall. In meeting the criteria for
excellent puppetry, Citation-worthy shows must also stand as prime
examples of excellent theatre.

There are approximately 43 reviewers throughout the country who are
charged with seeing shows and nominating those that, in the opinion of
the reviewer, are the best of our art. A reviewer can make as many
nominations as he or she wants. Once a production has been nominated it
must receive a total of 3 votes to receive a citation. There is no
limit on the number of citations that can be awarded in a given year
and so no production is ever in competition with another.

The criteria generally used by reviewers include:
=95 =A0Script (plot, character development, dialog, structure)
=95 =A0Direction (blocking, pacing, tempo, flow mood, focus)
=95 =A0Acting (manipulation, emotional range, characterization)
=95 =A0Design (sets, costumes, puppets, lighting, props, special effects)
=95 =A0Sound (music, voices, balance, effects)
=95 =A0Overall (dramatic effect, appropriateness, originality)
