The Ant belittles the grasshopper only to find in the end that he hopelessly bored and begs the grasshopper to stay. The grasshopper agrees to stay as an artist in residence but the ant has no idea of what that is. As a child I always felt bad for the grasshopper. The ant came across to me as the work ethic in the negative sense. The arts are supremely important. Thanks Rolande for spending your day defending them. > Aesop's Fable, THE ANT & THE GRASSHOPPER can be inerpreted in TWO ways. The traditional view was that the Ant was a noble, hard worker and the Grasshopper was a slacker (as if his musical talents had no value). A more truthful interpretation: the Grasshopper could add something to our lives besides drudgery. > > > _______________________________________________ > List address: puptcrit-AT-puptcrit.org > Admin interface: http://lists.puptcrit.org/mailman/listinfo/puptcrit > Archives: http://www.driftline.org > _______________________________________________ List address: puptcrit-AT-puptcrit.org Admin interface: http://lists.puptcrit.org/mailman/listinfo/puptcrit Archives: http://www.driftline.org
