We just mailed out 400+ packages so this is all pretty fresh in my mind. You asked for it, now you're going to get it. PuppetFest MidWest - An Independent Annual Puppet Festival - Trenton, Missouri www.puppetfestival.org Dates for this years 8TH ANNUAL PuppetFest MidWest are July 6-11, 2010 (and for next year, July 5-10, 2011). Scholarships may be available, check out the website. Starts Tuesday afternoon and runs through Sunday pre lunch. Participants stay in the dorms and attend workshops on the campus of North Central Misssouri College. One registration fee (plus possible additional supply fee depending on which 20 hour focus workshop you choose) covers shared room (single rooms are available for a little more $), board includes breakfast, lunch, dinner, two coffee breaks per day (and you will need them because your brain is working so hard focusing on one in-depth workshop for 20 HOURS). Evening performances at the Hoover Theater (open to the public but with reserved seating for festival registrants) are followed by late night conversation at "Pam's Place", late night snacks (by Pam Infranca) and beverages (organized by Paul Mesner and Drew Allison) of your choice (you pay for the drinks). Followed by possible performances at THE OPEN SPACE or other late night events. Everything at this festival is within an easy-to-walk 3 block radius. Excellent, experienced staff, teachers and performers. Trenton is about 90 minutes from Kansas City International Airport (but only about 3-4 turns on the highway) . Yes, there is a shuttle bus available from the airport or you could rent a car. Close to Jamesport, Missouri's largest AMISH colony. You may see buggies on the highway on the way to Trenton. We are offering ten workshops this year. You get to choose ONE and pursue it in depth for the week. Workshops are listed on our website. www.puppetfestival.org We try to make this a slow and easy festival. Free Puppet Exhibit mounted by Phillip Huber and staff, that has a grand ribbon cutting opening (hosted by the TRENTON Chamber of Commerce) on WEDNESDAY afternoon and if you are lucky and place yourself just right you may be in the Trenton Republican Times newspaper the next day. Last year we had a Live Puppet Exhibit and that worked out very well, although, Drew Allison seems to have gained weight from all of the M&M's people were feeding him, so, this year we will post signs "Please do not Touch or Feed the Exhibit". The website has the most up to date info and we post teasers on the P of A Bulletin Board (thanks again Lindsey). And thank you Christopher for the nudge. PuppetFest MidWest is a labor of love for the whole staff (that's what we call the performers and workshop leaders) and could not be swung without everyone working so well together. We are always in awe of the talent and generosity of this wonderful group. It is a little known fact that puppet events have been happening in Trenton for some time. David Lano and his wife reported performing four or five acts (marionettes, Punch, knife throwing ...???) at a street fair there during the last century and I believe that there is a picture on the PuppetFest MidWest website of one of the first ancient puppet events.
