Two things:
   Don't use too much glue. Dab it on, paint a thin layer, or spray it 
on. Do both things you are gluing together.
   Allow it to dry to tacky, not completely dry, then put the pieces 
together.

So, as Greg asked, what exactly is the problem you were/are having?
