Subject: [Puptcrit] "Bristle Dolls"?

As a fan of musical instrument/puppet collaborations, my curiosity
glands are all a-jitter over something that had until now escaped my
notice. "Bristle Dolls" are apparently small, light, and mounted on
thin wire stilts. When placed on a vibrant instrument they dance.
I could find only three references online. One mentions them as being
German, but doesn't provide a German term that would facilitate
further searching.

Another talks about a Chinese tradition:

And lastly an engraving from 17th century U.S.

Can anyone provide a first hand account, or point me towards more info?
