As a child, Bil Baird, who's theater I attended in Greenwich Village and Nicolo Marionettes, both companies that I am glad to say that I went on to work for as an adult (although after Bil passed and Nicolo had become Puppetworks (and yes Nick, I know it's more complicated than that.)) On television, Bil, Burr, and Jim, although not the Muppets of Sesame Street but the Muppets that showed up on the Ed Sullivan Show every couple of weeks with variety numbers, as well as a special that Jim Henson made for PBS in the early 60s on being a puppeteer and making puppets. And Bil Baird's The Art of the Puppet which I kept borrowed from the library and stared at endlessly. As a professional, Philippe Genty and Josef Krofta, both of whom I took workshops with in Charleville, thanks to UNIMA-USA. And one of my great regrets is missing the D.C. UNIMA Fest.
