Golf has always had a more proletarian
element here than elsewhere, and this 
continues to be the case. Of course there
are some "exclusive" golf courses, but 
(for instance) at the municipal golf course 
here in Dundee it's just two pounds for 
a round of golf. Of course there are plenty 
of people who can't afford even two pounds, 
but any day when it isn't actually pouring rain 
you can see local teenagers swinging golf
clubs on the waste ground near where I live.
And yes, I do mean they are swinging them 
at golf balls, not at each other.
