The midday "carnival" brought out local activists, punks, anarchist, and just average people concerned about Leonard Peltier's continued wrongful imprisonment. The gathering marched around the ugly J. Edgar Hoover Building several times and participants talked to the lunchtime pedestrians. The carnival was marked by several puppets. One showed the big bad FBI controlling a media marrionette. Another puppet portrayed a large penis, to show what "dicks" the FBI were concerning Peltier's case. Finally, a large bald eagle represented Leonard Peltier and his spirit to breathe free. On several occasions the eagle chased the FBI puppet. The crowd heard a statement from Leonard Peltier read by LPDC Washington legislative coordinator Breeze Luetke-Stahlman. She also read a letter of support from Mumia Abu-Jamal. The carnival wound down with a free food serving by the local Food Not Bombs. Photo coverage of the event may be available within several days. Check www.sinkers.org for more coverage.
