my religious schooling was rather amusing, and at times, something to be
proud of. as is the tradition in the emerald isle, i went to a catholic
school and was forced to take a class called "religion". i remember one
great time when i got the teacher so pissed at me that i was told to leave
the room. it went a little something like this. the teacher was, as
usual, spouting lots of bollocks, and he mentioned that there were 1500
million christians in the world and they couldn't all be wrong. of course,
my hand shot up right away at his nonsense. "but five hundred years ago,
didn't everyone think that the world was flat, and that didn't make them
right" i attested. the class were so annoyed with all the rubbish that the
teacher was coming out with that they gave me a big round of applause.
that really annoyed the guy, and as a consequence i was asked to leave the
room. then there was the time that i got into more trouble for not taking
holy communion at our graduation mass... ah, those were the days.
