This is not universally true, just generally true; there are always
exceptions.  Some of the more northern peoples may actually have taken
more nutrition from flesh than vegetation.  Also some of the
paleo/neo--lithic societies may have tilted towards flesh.  

Even so--not having a handy cite on these basic anomalies that make your
statement not-so-universally true--what is interesting about the general
nutrition bias toward gathering (somewhere between 70%-30% to 60%-40% in
favor of plants is the accepted _norm_) is that in by far the overwhelming
amount of gathering has been by femyles of the specie while the men were
occupied in less beneficial activities.

Why is this interesting?  I dunno. Maybe it explains why american males
tend to gravitate towards watching TV sports while womyn raise children,
do laundry, and have headaches.
