Ahem . Keri, you ought to know better than that.
The "nation" whose national football team's
coach got the sack for saying that disabled
people are being punished because of their
bad karma from a previous life was _England_ .
There is not, and there never has been, such
a thing as the UK "national" football team.
But yes, it is true that the English papers
have been obsessed with this appalling
disaster (not so much what he said about
the disabled, but the fact that they had lost
yet another team coach) and it is true that
the Scottish papers have also covered this
story, out of schadenfreude (I think that's
the word for "joy at the troubles of others").

>I'd have more fun in hell.

Keri is quoting her daughter Dee,
who has a fine future as an actress
in tragic (or should that be tragi-comedy?)
roles. When Dee was here my son Angus
and all the rest of us gleefully adopted
this catch-phrase, which was great
fun. Even Dee had to laugh at herself
for saying it. By the way, Dee is short
for Deirdre, which is Gaelic for "child
of sorrow".

Incidentally, in a message which I sent
to the list in reply to Nico Myowna, I said

>>Look, I know from personal experience
>>that human females can be lusty. In fact
>>sometimes they can be so lusty they make
>>this particular male downright nervous.

Saying that may have landed me in the doghouse
again. The woman in my life these days is Keri,
and she is on the anarchy-list, and immediately
reacts to comments like that. Either I was referring
to her (go to the doghouse....) or if I wasn't then
who the hell is this lusty female who makes
me nervous? Maybe I _like_ lusty females
making me nervous? (go to the doghouse...)
So let me make it clear that I was referring
to an incident in the dim and distant past.
And I can't even remember her name.
