Anarchists are against nations. We are for a free confederation of European communities, but this is not what the EU is. I would say (and please people correct me if I'm wrong) that all anarchists are against the EU as a highly centralised new state which exists to reduce whatever democracy we have and replace it with rule by central banks. The EU is an attempt by European capital to: 1) remove policy decisions from national governments and place it in a body which is under less popular pressure and easier for big business to influence/control. 2) to create an economy/state with enough clout to compete against the US and SE-Asia blocks. This will give European capital more of an impact in global organisations/agreements. 3) to give finance capital more power by creating a system in which the EU is run by central bankers, independent of politicians and the voting population. There is a good article on the EMU/EU at Doug Henwood's Left Business Observer (the URL is http://www.panix.com/~dhenwood/LBO_home.html and is worth reading) so, abolition of borders, good. EU, bad... Iain
