I have started reading a book called "Looking Forward" by Michael Albert 
and Robin Hahnel.  They have an idea called "job complexex" where 
everyone would have a combination of "good" and "bad" jobs (however you 
choose to define them) to do each day or week.  Combinine more rewarding 
work with rote, boring work.  

I haven't read the whole book yet, but it is an idea at least.
