Except that the two are very different things; one is a physical, geographic, 
material thing, and the other is a metaphor or attempted description of the 
evolution of human thought processes.  This description or metaphor could be 
wrong.  5 miles is 5 miles.   As they say in topology, the map is not the 
territory.
