I've read in 'mutual aid' that tribal societies had no families in the sense that we did and that families were invented later associated with the idea of private property ( in a sense though kropotkin doesn't say this women were property too). This however may be just idealization of the past i asked anout it a few weeks ago but got no response. i think i can go back and try to find the exact pages for you
