He's ruthless with his own party. Look at the Clapham Common resignation, signed and delivered before the press hit the fan. He's got Michael Foot and Clare Short in orgasmic mode re the boys in khaki. Also he physically barred Trimble and co's exit from the talks at one point. Ken Livingstone always said John Major was the best housing chairman Lambeth Council ever had. I think they all 'believed' things, but Bleuugh may have God on his side; which is always worrying. Say what you like about the likes of Richard Nixon for eg, but at least you knew he'd never risk worldly gain by pressing buttons for righteous causes. I'm all for the here 'n' now.
