Christchurch has to be the whitest city in New Zealand and has it's 
fair share of Nazi boneheads.  Most other ethnic groups live on the 
east side, which is largely working class and run down.  The 
neighbourhood I grew up in was quite a melting pot so I was used to 
people of all different sizes, shapes and colours.
Imagine my dismay when I find out at about age ten that a great deal 
of the white people in the city think that my brown friends are all 
illiterate drop kicks who deserve to be charged market rents by the 
government to live in substandard houses.
Until I left primary school( elementary in Americanese ) I thought 
that racism was something that only happened on TV.
To this day it still makes me furious.
I almost got into a drunken fight with a friend of mine's cousin a 
few weeks ago when he started dribbling on about how all the Somalian 
immigrants should go home.
I told him that him and all his preppy WASP friends should go to 
Somalia themselves and see how they like living there.
I told him that there are only about 700 Somalians in the city out of 
400,000 people, about enough to fill a school hall.
He told me that there isn't enough room.
I said "Take a tour of the country moron.  New Zealand is mostly 
empty. There's plenty of room for everybody."
He said that I wasn't very patriotic.
I lost it and said that I cared about humans in general, and that 
people like him made me feel ashamed to have white skin and ashamed 
to be of the same creed as a bunch of selfish bastards that can make 
immigrants feel so shitty that some of them actually do go home.
My friend separated us before we could come to blows.
I don't get that aggro usually.
