I think Mokey's on holiday now, but if he's out there, he's missed a classic Paxman.....

The drawling Newsnight supremo interviewed Kissinger on BBC Radio 4 this week:

The interview started with Paxman saying that he would have to explain who Kissinger was, for younger listeners. Kissinger growled "This has not started well, has it?"

After nimbly suggesting that Kissinger had written his memoirs so late in life in order to re-write history, and that his claim to have had an important role in the ending of the Cold War was "far-fetched" , the Paxmeister delivered his coup de grace:

"Can we now turn to Indo China for which you received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1973? That deal didn't bring peace to Indo-China. Was there a part of you that felt a fraud in accepting the Peace Prize?"

Kissinger: "What!!!!"

Paxman [loud contemptuous boom]: A Fraud!!!!

Kissinger: I wonder what you do when you do a hostile interview

[sound of Kissinger leaving the studio]

Paxman: Yes, thank you Dr Kissinger, thank you very much.

[snigger]
