hey kubhlai and others... here's another side of the story - there are
many, and i'm on several.  the AAC communique seems to have only been
sent
to mainstream press, and nobody I know has a copy.  I'll send more if I
get
it.  This was a flyer posted all around town.

WHY DID THE RIOT HAPPEN?

- Because holding picket signs in front of the Federal Building doesn't
change a goddamn thing.

- Because "our" government is preparing to declare martial law during
Y2K 
(?).

- Because when we spend our entire life feeling psychologically,
emotionally, and sexually repressed, we lose our minds in an explosion
of
suppressed rage the moment we get a taste of freedom.

- Because my friends keep getting raped.

- Because of "walk bikes, no skateboards".

- Because anyone who isn't white or is poor or is at all associated with
the activist community deals with harassment, intimidation or brutality
from the occupational forces (a.k.a. cops) on a daily basis.

- An ethnic Albanian boy on Friday looks at writing left by Serb
soldiers
that says "NATO murderers you are killing Serbian children".

- Because we slave our lives away at dumb jobs that we hate.

- Because when I was seven years old, my mom told me I'm going to hell
when
I die.

- Because people go to jail for smoking pot.

- Because of June 1st.

- Because our culture is violent.

- Because of Mumia.

- Because the powers that be lie to us all the time.

- Because of that American flag on Skinner's butte.

- Because of genetic engineering and cloning.

- Because we don't really live in a free country.

- Because people have had the shit kicked out of them by family,
"friends",
cops and total strangers for no good reason all too often.

- Because all life on planet Earth is being killed by the global economy
and it may already be too late to stop it.

- Because of racism, sexism, and homophobia.

- Because modern life is stressful.

- Because the pressure's been building for a long time.

- Because we live in a fucked-up world that's rapidly getting worse.

- Because for once in our lives we didn't feel powerless anymore.

- Because the new Star Wars movie is no substitute for an everyday life
devoid of adventure.

- Because school was/is a traumatic experience.

- BECAUSE IT GOT YOUR ATTENTION, DIDN'T IT?
