There are people for whom the Burns cult is a religion and the suggestion of pissing on Rabbie's grave would be blasphemy. On the poet's birthday, January 25th, they sing >There is a star which brightly beams >It shines on many a clime >It shines by night >It shines by day >And ne'er grows dim wi' time >Twa hundred years have gone and mair >Yet brighter still it gleams >Let kings and courtiers rise and fa' >This world has many turns >But brightly beams >Abune them a' >The star o' Rabbie Burns >Though he was but a ploughman lad >And wore the hodden grey >Auld Scotia still does mourn him yet >Aneath his bed o' clay >Then raise your glasses in the toast > Immortal Rabbie Burns ! But okay, let's admit that it may be possible to have jokes which are not offensive to anybody. Even so, I still think that , if we limited ourselves to totally inoffensive jokes, probably the great majority of all jokes would be considered off limits. Dave
