actually, i was lucky enough to see the Subhumans last fall in Philly 
durring their reunion tour.  i'm not some huge punk rocker, both in 
apperance & physical stature, but i felt extremely welcome at this show and 
people even in the pit were pretty compasionate. since we wanted to get up 
close to the stage we also ended up where the pit area opened up once the 
band started playing, and a couple times both of us got sucked in, and my 
friend fell twice.  both times a bunch of people surrounded her in a circle 
so noone could step on her untill she was helped up...
i even got my glasses knocked off, and found them later placed aside the 
stage so they wouldn't be trampled(any more than they were).... and people 
were holding up lost items at the end of the show till someone claimed them.
i think the atmoshpere just depends on what type of people are comming to 
these shows.... but your right, some people will use it as an oppertunity to 
grope someone without many consequences...
