OPERATIONAL NOTE: NOT FOR PUBLICATION

L/PS/104/99 4 OCTOBER 1999

NEW A12 HACKNEY TO M11 LINK ROAD OFFICIALLY OPENS

Highways Agency Chief Executive Lawrie Haynes officially opens the new A12
Hackney to M11 Link Road on Wednesday morning.

The four-mile bypass is a major artery taking heavy traffic away from the
residential streets of Leyton and Leytonstone in north-east London and
restoring a village atmosphere to Wanstead. The social, environmental,
safety and economic aspects of the scheme, together with the fact that it
is also good news for motorists, are priorities in the
Government's transport policy.

Lawrie Haynes will cut a ribbon to inaugurate the final stretch of the new
road at the Green Man tunnel. You are invited to send a
reporter/photographer.

Date:	Wednesday 6th October
Time: Rendevous 9.45am for 10am departure to ceremony site
Venue:	W S Atkins site office, High Road, Leytonstone (northern end
-nearest tube leytonstone). *Map sent on request.
