A transcendentalist is one who gives up all material object, believes
ownership is false and oftern lives in nature. Such was Thoreau. He lived
on a little piece of Ralph Waldo Emerson's land in the woods and was quite
contempt. The man was a genious. He refused to pay the dollar for his
diploma at Harvard, so he never got it. His Christian name was David Henry
Thoreau but he wanted things to be backwards so he named himself Henry David.
During the Mexican war, the government demanded he pay his taxes. He didn't
want his money going to kill another nation, so he went to jail. One of the
most famous acts of cival disobedience of all time.
