Miller -- 25 Dec 99 Dear tallpaul: I guess I should thank you for making my spat with Arthur Miller public. In a way you've outed my criticism of the Mumia movement, so I guess I have no choice but to continue with it. I owe everybody a longer response, which this late hour prevents me from doing. I should also thank you for proving the baisc point that I was making to Arthur: that the Mumia movement not only doesn't have any internal criticism, but that it attacks all those who dare to speak up. This is not just fair to me, but to anybody else who wants to raise concerns. A social movement that is unable to engage in internal debate is one flying with one broken wing. Sooner or later it might make a fatal mistake. My argument with Arthur is not about anarchism, as you like to cast it. My criticisms come as an activist who has been involved in Mumia support for 5 years. I've also been a social change activist for over 15. I've been around the block a few times and get tired of seeing the same mistakes repeated. It's unfortunate that you further confuse this issue and dilute my criticism by making irrelevant comparisons to Bob McGlynn and the the stupid debate over social anrchism versus "lifestyle" anarchism. I fail to see how that is relevant to my criticisms about how the Mumia movement cannot tolerate internal criticism. Arthur sees my criticisms as being from somebody who wants to destroy something. The question is, if anybody else raised the same criticisms, would they be labelled the same way? I'm interested in getting Mumia out of jail. That's why I have web pages on his case. That's why I've volunteered hundreds of hours over the years and attended dozens of meetings. It's quite eerie how this attack on my activism by "The Internet Anti-Fascist" parallels the hatchet job that was done to D.C. activist Starr Bowie in 1998. I'm not surprised. Again, this proves my point. Lastly, you seem to be guilty of the things you charge the Mid-Atlantic Infoshop with. You fail to even include the post I sent out, to which Arthur is responding. This is unfair to me and only serves to muddy this debate. For the life of me, I can't see why Arthur and I don't get along better. I have alot of respect for his work as a labor organizer and indigenous rights supporter. I've chalked this animosity that he has toward me as miscommunication between us. I don't understand why tallpaul has decided that the email exhange between Arthur and I merits a broadcast attack on my character. I guess I'll just have to take tallpaul's bizarre attack on the Mid-Atlantic Infoshop with a grian of salt. I will wait to see if my base charge about the support movement not beign able to deal with internal criticism is answered or not.
