It's been done, and there are a few out there still - I just finished
reading a book called "Making It Up As We Go Along - The Story of the
Albany Free School" by Chris Mercogliano. It doesn't perfectly adhere to
anarchist philosophy, but it seems as close as practically possible in the
US right now by a genuine 'school', certainly much closer than Summerhill
in England (which in itself blew me away when I read "Summerhill - A
Radical Approach to Child Rearing" by A.S. Neill).

In states like Missouri where I live, the ease of homeschooling would make
an anarchist school pretty easy, particularly if one were to forget
traditional ideas about having paid teachers and a fixed building to study
in, and instead have parents and other volunteers teach and use peoples'
homes as well as cultural resources in the community. Because of peoples'
work schedules, it may also require a re-thinking of what constitutes a
school day - it may need to be moved into the evenings or be more
concentrated on weekends and during the summer.

wouldn't be too hard though.

cheers,
Scott
