I'm reading his book 'Deschooling Society' right now, he makes some really good arguments about dismantling the institutionalized producer-consumer model of education and replacing it with a self-driven individual model, which sounds great, but then he keeps veering off towards proposing legislation to support his model, where needless to say, he loses me. Given that the book was written in 1970, I can understand him not forseeing homeschooling or the world wide web, but you would think he'd understand that mass answers (one model for everybody) never work, and concentrate more on tearing down useless old structures and allowing people to build new ones as their desire and needs dictate. Anyway, I'm supposing this is all old news to Andy and Carp, and I'd like to hear what they think about it, and to suggest the book to those who haven't read it - particularly those still in school with whom it may resonate more. His solutions are half-baked, but his criticisms are on the money. cheers, Scott --------------------------------------------------------- "No one has yet realized the wealth of sympathy, the kindness and generosity hidden in the soul of a child.
