My man is a spastic, but he is able to work, provided someone's willing to employ him. On the other hand, there's also lots of people in institutions who are working, in what is called "caring workplaces" here, e.g. producing traffic lights. Although these "caring workplaces" are said to take care of special needs and persons not able to work as fast as non-handicapped people, many of them do piecework. The special care in this case means that they do not get appropriate payment, all they earn will be sacked in by the institution and they will be given an "allowance" of DM 100 per months. The equation "handicapped = unable to work" is far from being correct, and divides people into categories of a presumed usability resp non-usability. It is about as appropriate as people, in seeing a physically handicapped/ disabled person, will automatically assume they are also lacking in mental abilities. catkawin ## CrossPoint v3.11 ##
